How do you view God?

What comes to your mind when you think about the character of God in the Old Testament? Do you ponder on the great and awesome God he is? Or do you have difficulty reconciling the God of the Bible with the God that too often has been constructed in our minds?

The truth of the matter is that God reveals all his characteristics through what he says and does in the Scriptures. Through the historical events and through his relationship with people, we see a progressive revelation of himself: his power and might, his holiness and justice, his love and grace, his patience and mercy, and his faithfulness to his promises, to name a few.

A simple google search on the character of God will quickly result in articles that express characteristics of his love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, etc. What about the fact that God is a jealous God? That he judges? That he retributes? These are characteristics we don’t like to focus on in our culture today. Yet having an incorrect view on him and his character will affect not only your theology but how you live your life as a Christian. Low views of God will destroy the gospel message.

In the next few weeks, we will be focusing on 9 characteristics of God. Some of them may surprise you! But let’s dig deeper into the Word, where we discover, biblically, who our God is.
