2019 Women In The Word Workshop

Thursday, January 17-Saturday, January 19, 2019

For some reason, studying and teaching the Bible seems a bit mysterious to many of us.  We admire those who can explain a text to us, but we don’t know how to follow in their footsteps.

Observing the finished product of someone’s work often makes us feel like we are at a gourmet meal.  We appreciate the presentation, but long to know the recipe: the tools and ingredients they used to create it.

Thankfully, the Bible is not an inaccessible book with meaning that only the elite can access.  You too can learn how to use study tools which will help you properly ‘feed’ those you are teaching and leading.

On January 17-19, 2019, we are hosting a “Women in the Word” workshop at Northview Community Church in Abbotsford.  This event is focused on teaching people to use specific study tools to guide our interpretation and application of Biblical passages.  There will be a combination of up front teaching and small group work, and we are certain that you will leave on Saturday feeling better equipped and encouraged to study and teach the Bible.

Who is the event for?

Women who are currently leading others in Bible Study in an official staff or volunteer position, or women who are being trained for leadership. The tools will be applicable whether you are working with children, youth, young adults, women or coed study groups.  (If you are not currently in a teaching/training role, please contact us via email at women@northview.org prior to registering).

We will register a maximum of 10 participants per church for this event; additional registrations will be placed on a wait list and processed if there is space available.

Who is providing the teaching?

Polly Long from Regent College, Jan Hobbis and Bronwyn Short from St. John’s Vancouver, and Kristal Toews from Northview Community Church in Abbotsford will be teaching.  They will be training you to implement study tools promoted by the Charles Simeon Trust.

New for 2019:

  • We will be studying the book of Jonah – a mixture of Old Testament narrative, prophetic and poetic literature! What a challenging combination.
  • We will be providing an opportunity for ministry leaders to receive additional training on how to transition from studying a passage to creating a talk on the passage.

What is the cost and what is included?

Registration: $99

The registration fee includes supper on Thursday night, lunch on Friday, coffee breaks and snacks, and your conference workbook.
